A Rainy Autumn Day
Brrr, another rainy day! I thought, looking out the window that morning.
Usually I love autumn. It’s so pretty when the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. The corn in the fields is ready to harvest and big pumpkins are growing in the garden. We also like to build a kite every autumn and fly it in the yard. But yesterday the wind was so strong that our kite got stuck in a tree! And then it started raining, so we couldn’t get it down right away.
Today it was raining again, so I decided to stay at home. Only my father was brave enough to go outside. He wanted to use the leaf-rake to rake up the leaves that the wind had blown down from the trees. I made myself a cup of tea, settled down in a comfortable chair and watched him through the window. There was a squirrel sitting on a branch and happily eating a grape, and a hedgehog made its way through the garden, looking for food.
Suddenly, I stared in disbelief: my dad started jumping in puddles like a child, splashing the poor hedgehog! I’d never seen my father behaving so playfully. But although he was having fun, I’ll bet the hedgehog was wishing for an umbrella right about then.
