Chaos on the Chessboard
Chaos on the Chess Board
Little Jimmy is dying of boredom! As a favour to his grandpa, he joined the chess club at school and now he’s learning all about the strategies of the game. It’s so exhausting and he doesn’t enjoy it at all. He finds it difficult to concentrate and his thoughts begin to drift away.
Suddenly, the chess clock’s gone crazy – time is running backwards. Jimmy can’t believe his eyes! The queen is marching across the chessboard by herself, she’s ordering the other chess pieces around. First, she commands the pawn to capture the rook and then she calls to the bishop and instructs him not to move. What’s next? She pulls her king’s crown down over his eyes so that he can’t see and then does the same thing to her opponent’s king.
It’s absolute chaos! The game is playing itself. Thrilled, Jimmy watches the madness unfold. The knight shakes his shaggy mane and the pawns on the other side of the chessboard start to fight. What’s the aim of this game? Both kings have been in checkmate since the very beginning.
As Jimmy wakes from is daydream, he thinks to himself, “That was the most exciting game of chess I have ever seen!”
