At the Train Station
Phew, that was close! Now that we’re sitting here on the train, we can finally relax . But we almost missed the train. What happened?
This morning, we left the house nice and early. We arrived at the train station with plenty of time. The first thing we did, was check the departures and arrivals board to see which platform our train was leaving from. Then we went to the ticket machine and bought our tickets.
We had a few minutes until the train departed, so we strolled leisurely through the station. But when we arrived at our platform, we saw a goods train – that couldn’t be right! Where was our train?
Then a nice man told us that today our train was departing from platform 8. It was already late, two minutes until departure time. We ran as fast as we could through the train station. When we got to platform 8, we saw the train driver looking out the window of the locomotive. He was getting ready to leave. Luckily, the conductor was nice and waited for us before blowing his whistle and shouting, “All aboard!”
We boarded the first carriage but our seats were at the other end of the train – in second class. To get to them, we had to lug our suitcases through the whole train, including the restaurant car where passengers where already ordering breakfast. We were extremely lucky not to have missed the train that morning.
