Conditional I (condizionale presente)
Introduzione
Il Conditional I viene utilizzato principalmente nelle frasi con if di II tipo. In questi casi il Conditional I esprime un'azione che sarebbe possibile se le condizioni fossero diverse.
Beispiel
– I am baking a cake. Can you help me?
– If I had time, I’d help you. But I need to go to town. The tram leaves in ten minutes.
Quando si usa?
- per esprimere azioni che potrebbero svolgersi nel presente/nel futuro in condizioni diverse (vedi anche Frasi con if)
- Esempio:
- If I had time, I would help you.Se avessi tempo, ti aiuterei.
Come si forma?
Utilizziamo l'ausiliare would ed il verbo nella sua forma base.

La forma breve
Nell'inglese parlato si ha la tendenza di contrarre pronomi e verbi per avere un suono più naturale. Si tratta delle forme brevi.

Nota
La forma negativa della forma breve, cioè quando si contrae il verbo con il not, possiamo utilizzarla sempre (qualsiasi sia la parola che precede).
- Esempio:
- She wouldn’t ask if she didn’t need help.
- His mother/Mrs Sanders wouldn’t ask if she didn’t need help.
Possiamo utilizzare tutte le altre forme brevi soltanto dopo i pronomi e non dopo altri tipi di parole.
- Esempio:
- She’d not ask if she didn’t need help.
- (ma non:
His mother’d/Mrs Sanders’d not ask if she didn’t need help.)
